In the twenty-first century, digital colonialism has assumed new linguistic and intellectual dimensions, as global powers like Google and Meta perpetuate colonial narratives through data and algorithms. Urdu literature, rooted in its long tradition of resistance, continues to confront these challenges. In the past, thinkers like Hali, Shibli, and Iqbal stood against imperial dominance, and today this legacy is carried forward through the preservation of the Urdu script, the rise of online libraries, blogs, and social media platforms. Despite the promotion of Roman script and the preference given to colonial languages, Urdu literature, with its creative vitality, not only fights for survival but also shapes an alternative cultural and intellectual narrative.
